Tesla's residential batteries maximize solar panel usage and offer a variety of solutions for electricity supply. They can even operate off-grid.
Use stored energy to have electricity at home during power outages, keep appliances running without interruptions, and recharge with clean and renewable energy.

Keep your home and all appliances powered during an outage. When severe weather is forecasted, Storm Watch will automatically charge Powerwall to its maximum capacity to prepare for an outage. If a power outage occurs, Powerwall will help keep your solar system running or switch your home to stored energy instantly if using grid power.

Powerwall is a compact home battery that stores energy generated by solar panels or from the electric grid. You can use this energy to power devices and appliances in your home day and night, during power outages, or when you want to disconnect from the grid. With customizable power modes, you can optimize your stored energy for outage protection, electricity bill savings, and more.

Current batteries are bulky, expensive to install, and maintain. In contrast, the Powerwall's lithium-ion battery inherits Tesla's proven automotive battery technology, to power your home safely and economically. Fully automated, it installs easily and requires no maintenance.
A typical system with Tesla Powerwall includes solar panels, an inverter to convert current to AC, a device to measure battery charge, and as a backup, a secondary circuit for power supply. These components vary depending on your installation's features.
- Solar Panels
The panels convert sunlight into electricity, charging Powerwall and supplying power to your home during the day. During low solar production, Powerwall can strategically reduce your bill by analyzing your consumption.
- Powerwall 3
The battery is charged with energy produced by the panels or from the electric grid.
- Inverter
Converts electricity from the panels (DC) to AC for your home.
All Powerwall installations require a compatible inverter. To maximize solar energy, a device is also installed to measure solar production and your home's consumption.
- Safety and Switch
Some safety installations require a second electrical box with critical equipment that cannot be left without electricity. A relay (electrical switch) is activated automatically during a power outage from the company.
When installed with solar energy, the security installation works with the panels.

Each Powerwall 3 has 13.5 kWh of energy storage capacity, sufficient for most homes. Multiple batteries can be installed together to increase capacity.
